I pledge allegiance,
To Anacreon in Heaven, Better known as The Star Spangled Banner. The drinking song, turned poem, turned national anthem. The Danish tune more american than baseball or apple pie. Words by Francis Scott, Tune by John Marsh, Capable of bringing us together, Or tearing us apart. Filled with mysterious origin, and questionable lyrics that are never thoroughly looked into. 316 words in 4 verses, but only one is sung The one verse that does not mention slavery and racism And if church and state are truly separate, Why is our national motto “In god we trust” And if america is truly free, why are there's still corruptions in our governments I pledge allegiance to america, for the better or for the worse. |
